Yankees Predicted to Finish in Last Place by Baseball Reference

The New York Yankees are predicted to have a poor playoff outlook in 2024, according to baseball experts at Baseball Reference. They forecast the team to win only 71.6 games and have a just 2.7 percent chance of making the postseason, which is worse than other teams in the league.

However, this projection sharply contrasts with those from Fangraphs, who predict that the Yankees will win 88 games and place fourth overall in baseball. Additionally, BetRivers Sportsbook forecasts New York to win 91.5 games, giving them the third-highest odds to win the most games in baseball.

Furthermore, BetRivers also gives the Yankees a higher chance of making the playoffs with a 77.01 percent probability, compared to Baseball Reference’s projection of only 2.7 percent. However, it’s worth noting that Baseball Reference’s projection is based on their Simple Rating System, which calculates run differential and schedule strength from previous games but doesn’t consider player injuries or offseason changes.

Despite their poor performance in 2023 season, there are reasons for optimism as they are expected to see improvement with Juan Soto on board and a potential full season from Aaron Judge. However, some experts believe that changes made in off-season may limit Simple Rating System used for this projection.

Overall, while predictions vary among different sources and projections may seem limited by factors such as injuries and roster changes
