The Boeing CEO Steps Down Following a Series of Incidents

Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun has announced that he will step down at the end of the year. The company has faced several challenges in recent months, including technical issues with its aircraft and delays in deliveries. Calhoun’s departure comes after a new CEO was appointed for the commercial aircraft department and a new chairman took over.

Calhoun was appointed as CEO in 2020 to restore confidence in Boeing after two fatal plane crashes in 2018 and 2019. The company faced a worldwide flight ban for the 737 MAX following the crashes. In his letter to employees, Calhoun mentioned that he and departing chairman Larry Kellner had been planning the transition for some time.

The reasons for the leadership changes are not specified, but Calhoun emphasized the importance of being transparent and humble in addressing Boeing’s challenges. He stated that his work at Boeing will only be complete when necessary tasks have been accomplished to ensure the company’s success.

Boeing’s stock rose by about 1 percent shortly after the announcement of Calhoun’s departure. The company continues to face pressure to improve quality and safety, with other top executives also leaving.
