Botswana proposes sending 20,000 elephants to Germany to regulate population through hunting

Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi has proposed sending 20,000 elephants to Germany in response to the country’s decision to implement stricter restrictions on the import of hunting trophies. The president believes that efforts to preserve wild animals only lead to impoverishment of Botswanans and an increase in the number of elephants. He also stated that hunting helps keep the elephant population under control.

President Masisi encouraged Germany to try living with animals like Botswana does, as the country is home to over 130,000 elephants, making it the third country in the world with the highest number of elephants. Previously, Botswana has donated elephants to Angola and offered hundreds of elephants to Mozambique to help preserve their declining populations. President Masisi expressed his sincere desire to gift elephants to Germany, emphasizing that he was serious and would not accept no as an answer.
