STAT introduces new fellowship for science reporting [United States]

Journalists from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the United States can apply for a yearlong fellowship with STAT. This fellowship, known as the Sharon Begley-Science Reporting Fellowship, is designed to prepare journalists for a successful career in science journalism.

The fellowship will take place from mid-July 2024 to mid-July 2025 and will be based at STAT’s Boston office. The successful fellow will work alongside experienced science and health reporters and editors at STAT to report and write articles for the publication.

Through this program, the selected fellow will receive a salary of $75,000 and health insurance, as well as 10 days of vacation and standard holidays off. The fellowship honors the late Sharon Begley, an acclaimed science writer for STAT who passed away in January 2021 from complications of lung cancer.

The deadline to apply for the Sharon Begley-Science Reporting Fellowship is April 26.
