The growing field of data science is experiencing a significant increase in demand, with the US Census Bureau predicting a 35 percent rise in the number of data scientists by 2032. To help women capitalize on this opportunity, Virginia Tech is hosting events aimed at increasing female participation in the field and encouraging women to pursue careers in data science.
On Monday, a networking mixer was held for anyone interested in data science. The goal of this event was to provide an opportunity for women to connect with successful women in the industry and gain valuable insights into the field. Professor Angie Patterson, who is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Statistics at Virginia Tech, emphasized the importance of providing these opportunities for women to network and learn from one another.
The theme of this year’s event centers around how women can gain visibility in data science, with a particular focus on providing role models for young women. On Tuesday, a half-day conference featuring speakers from the field will be held to raise awareness about the work and promote diversity in data science. These events are designed to provide women with the resources and support they need to succeed in this growing field.
