High school students in Massachusetts utilize green bandanas to combat the stigma surrounding mental health

During Mental Health Awareness Month in May, the color green is used to symbolize support for mental health awareness. In Norton, WBZ visited a high school where students are working to break down stigmas surrounding mental health through an initiative called the Green Bandana Project.

The Green Bandana Project is a stress relief tool that Vanessa Lee, a freshman at Norton High School and peer advocate, keeps on her backpack during tests. According to Goldstein, it’s alright for students to rely on others for support and that the embroidery on the green bandanas signifies friendship and support while reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

WBZ is a sponsor of Project 351, a non-profit organization that works to empower and support teens through initiatives like the Green Bandana Project. Benson Chang, another student involved with Project 351, stresses the importance of prioritizing mental well-being and reaching out for help when needed.
