The UN Security Council has approved a resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan, marking the first time such a resolution has been approved since the conflict began. This development is seen as a significant step towards bringing peace and stability to the region.

The United States abstained from vetoing the resolution, which was met with both relief and disappointment from various parties. The US explained that the decision does not represent a change in policy but was made due to the lack of condemnation of Hamas in the resolution.
