Students make science exciting for children at Bishop Dunn

Recently, Bishop Dunn Memorial School in Newburgh provided young scholars with an opportunity to engage in hands-on science experiments with students from Mount Saint Mary College. Led by Jodie Fahey, an associate professor of Chemistry at the Mount, the college students mentored children in various projects that explored pH levels of household liquids and encouraged them to form their own hypotheses.

Bishop Dunn Memorial School has a rich history dating back to 1883 when it was founded on the Mount campus. The school is dedicated to the holistic development of children, focusing on academic, spiritual, emotional, social, and physical growth from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Partnerships with organizations like Mount Saint Mary College provide students with unique learning opportunities that foster a love for science and discovery.

Mount Saint Mary College student Ashley Leonor from New Windsor, N.Y., impressed Bishop Dunn Memorial School students with a density experiment during the event on March 19. The close relationship between the college and Bishop Dunn allows for collaboration and support between the two institutions. Mount Education students often engage in fieldwork at Bishop Dunn, gaining valuable experience under the guidance of experienced faculty members.

Principal Nancy Benfer, a Mount grad from the class of ’04, is just one example of the strong connection between the college and Bishop Dunn. Many graduates from Mount Saint Mary College go on to work at Bishop Dunn, contributing to its success and mission of providing a well-rounded education to its students. Through initiatives like this recent science event, both institutions are able to work together to inspire and educate future scientists.

The partnership between Bishop Dunn Memorial School and Mount Saint Mary College has been instrumental in providing unique learning experiences for both institutions’ students. As these young scholars continue their journey towards becoming scientists or other professionals in their respective fields, they will have gained valuable skills and knowledge through these collaborative efforts.

In conclusion, it is clear that partnerships like this one have immense benefits for both schools involved in terms of providing more opportunities for hands-on learning experiences that inspire curiosity and promote scientific discovery among young minds. These initiatives demonstrate how important it is for educational institutions to collaborate with each other in order to better serve their respective communities while also fostering lifelong learning among all involved parties.
