Witness a SpaceX rocket photobombing the moon in an incredible award-winning photograph

Photographing a rocket passing the moon is a rare and challenging feat that requires exceptional skills. Pascal Fouquet, an Orlando, Florida-based photographer, was able to capture such a moment during the USSF-52 mission launch of SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. He won the first place in the United States’ National Award for the Sony World Photography Awards 2024 for his photograph.

Fouquet had less than 48 hours to prepare for this opportunity and chose an unconventional location for his shot, an open field behind a hospice center 13.8 miles away from the launch pad. With his Nikon D850 camera, he set his shutter speed at 1/1600 of a second to capture the split second moment when Falcon Heavy passed in front of the moon. This was the seventh launch for Space Force’s secretive X-37B space plane, which remained in orbit after its last mission lasted 908 days.

Fouquet’s photograph showcases his skill and dedication to capturing this rare moment. His work has been recognized and awarded at a national level, highlighting his talent as a photographer. The partnership between Sony and the World Photography Organization provides photographers like Fouquet with a platform to showcase their work and receive recognition for their skills.

In conclusion, capturing a rocket transiting the moon is an extraordinary achievement that requires advanced photography skills and quick thinking. Pascal Fouquet’s photograph is a testament to his talent and dedication to capturing unique moments in photography.
