North Philadelphia funeral home intends to rebuild following fire to continue operating as a family business

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a fire destroyed a century-old funeral home in North Philadelphia. The Pennick Funeral Home, located on Montgomery Avenue in Brewerytown since 1928, was left charred after the fire. The establishment had been a beloved part of the community for decades, with its long history now represented by the devastation caused by the fire.

The tragedy struck when flames erupted from a third-floor bedroom, prompting Pennick’s nephew to evacuate everyone from the house. Firefighters were able to safely remove the bodies of the deceased from the reposing room of the funeral home. Despite the loss, Shelli Pennick, the third-generation owner of the funeral home, is grateful that everyone got out safely and that they were able to ensure the safety of their loved ones.

The support from the community has been overwhelming, with many reaching out to offer comfort and help. Pennick is determined to rebuild and restore the legacy her family has built over the years. As she continues to provide support to people in need, she remains focused on ensuring that her loved ones are safe and sound.
