Jamal Murray makes a surprise appearance at unified basketball game for Colorado students

Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray recently made a surprise visit to North Middle School where he served as a coach for a unified basketball game against Aurora Hills Middle School. Unified sports aim to provide opportunities for students with and without disabilities to participate in school sports.

During the game, Murray received special attention from an 8th grader with disabilities named Felipe Avalos. Murray was impressed by Felipe’s incredible abilities on the court and jokingly said, “Give him the ball and get out of his way.” The focus of the game was on having fun rather than winning or losing, as all student-athletes enjoyed the experience.

Aurora Public Schools received a $5,000 donation from UCHealth to support unified sports within the district. To show his commitment to helping and inspiring children, Murray surprised everyone by matching the donation, leading to a total of $10,000 in funding for equipment purchases for all unified sports in the district. This generous donation will further enhance the opportunities for students with disabilities to participate in sports.

Murray expressed his enjoyment in playing basketball and bringing smiles to the faces of kids during the event. He believes that everyone should have an opportunity to play and that unified sports are an excellent way to make that happen.
