Ohtani denies sports betting and expresses shock over interpreter stealing money

At a news conference held at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani denied allegations of betting on sports and accused his former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, of stealing money from him and spreading falsehoods. Ohtani looked visibly upset as he spoke to the media, expressing shock and sadness that someone he trusted would betray him in such a way.

Mizuhara was fired by the Dodgers after reports surfaced about his alleged ties to an illegal bookmaker and debts exceeding $1 million. Sitting next to Will Ireton, the team’s manager of performance operations, Ohtani referred to a document in front of him as he addressed the media. He stated that Mizuhara had been taking money from his account and spreading falsehoods.

According to an MLB source, MLB investigators have been in contact with federal prosecutors regarding the case. They are continuing their investigation independently and have not shared any information with MLB yet. Ohtani emphasized that he has never placed bets on baseball or any other sports, never asked anyone to do so on his behalf, and never used a bookmaker to place bets or assist in betting for others.

Ohtani left the Los Angeles Angels in December to sign a record-breaking $700 million, 10-year contract with the Dodgers. The situation involving Mizuhara has caused a stir in the baseball world, and MLB officials are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
