Tucker DeVries from Drake basketball decides to transfer to a new school

After the NCAA Tournament loss to Washington State, Drake basketball player Tucker DeVries officially entered the transfer portal on Wednesday. This news was first reported by On3 Sports, following DeVries’ announcement that he was scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery after experiencing issues for most of the season. Despite these challenges, DeVries was able to complete the season by playing through the pain and contributing to the team in any way possible.

Tucker DeVries, a true freshman starter who made a significant impact at Drake, is expected to follow his father Darian DeVries to West Virginia. Although this move has not been officially confirmed, it is anticipated that more Bulldog players will enter the transfer portal in the coming days as Darian DeVries takes on a new coaching role at West Virginia. During his time at Drake, Tucker DeVries averaged impressive statistics in his junior season, including 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, along with 53 steals, a career-high for him. He also earned the prestigious Larry Bird Trophy award twice as the conference player of the year and led Drake to back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference tournament championships and NCAA Tournament berths.

As other players contemplate their next moves and with Darian DeVries taking on a new coaching role at West Virginia, it remains uncertain what the future holds for Drake basketball program. Alyssa Hertel, a college sports recruiting reporter for Des Moines Register can be contacted for more information on this developing story.
