The DuPage County Board has recently passed a strategic plan that will guide legislation through the end of the decade. Led by the Strategic Planning Committee, chaired by board member Sadia Covert, this plan outlines the goals and wishes of both the board and the community for the future of DuPage County.
The committee decided to focus on community services and economic development, with a goal of promoting local businesses, workforce development, and creating outreach programs for families, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. County Board Chair Deborah Conroy emphasized the importance of this plan in ensuring that DuPage County remains prosperous and thriving for years to come.
While the plan’s goals are not set in stone, there are no consequences in place for not adhering to the priorities set forth. These priorities include community well-being, fiscal responsibility, a thriving economy, a safe community, environmental stewardship, and mobility. The committee held extensive debate over specific language used in the plan to highlight its significance.
Smaller objectives within the plan have gained increased attention, such as reducing DuPage County’s landfill presence and expanding bike and pedestrian pathways.
