In April, 20 Million Italians are Traveling for Easter

According to a recent report from the Confcommercio Tourism Observatory and Swg, ten million Italians are set to embark on their Easter holiday travels. Of this number, two million remain undecided due to unpredictable weather conditions but are ready to pack their bags. Additionally, another 8.5 million Italians are planning trips for the long April 25 weekend. The total estimated expense for these holidays is around 3.5 billion euros or approximately 350 euros per person.

In the past month, many travelers have opted for shorter holidays closer to home, which has led to an increase in the percentage of those who will spend only two nights at their destination. This represents a 12% increase from previous data. While the number of Italians traveling abroad for Easter has decreased slightly from 11% to 15%, popular destinations such as Spain, France, and Austria remain top picks.

When it comes to accommodation choices, most travelers prefer hotels or bed and breakfasts (51%), while 30% choose second homes or visit relatives and friends during the holidays. Almost half of those staying within Italy for Easter plan trips outside of their own region. Popular destinations include Campania, Sicily, and Puglia in the South and Emilia Romagna, Lombardy, and Tuscany in the North.

Despite concerns about unpredictable weather conditions and international tensions, Italians remain determined to travel during Easter. Carlo Sangalli, president of Confcommercio notes that April promises growth for tourism due to its proximity to both Easter and long weekends. However, supporting families’ spending capacity through tax reform is crucial in ensuring a successful holiday season for all involved parties involved in tourism industry
