Special solar eclipse event at Kentucky Science Center

On April 8th, the Kentucky Science Center in Louisville will be hosting a special event to commemorate the upcoming solar eclipse. The event, which runs from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., features free activities and admission for all guests. During the event, visitors can explore the Science Center’s 50,000 square feet of exhibits and participate in special programming throughout the galleries.

The educational programs offered during the event include information on eclipse-viewing safety, cultural interpretations of eclipses, constellations, and gravity. Guests can also create their own pinhole cameras and learn about UV rays as they view the partial eclipse. In addition to these eclipse-related activities, visitors can watch a screening of the documentary “Journey to Space 3-D” in the Science Center’s four-story theater. This film explores NASA’s Space Shuttle program, the International Space Station, and the Hubble Space Telescope.

Kentucky Science Center CEO Mike Norman expressed his excitement about hosting an event focused on this rare phenomenon. He emphasized the importance of engaging guests in scientific exploration and understanding the reasons behind the eclipse. This event is made possible in part by a NASA Kentucky Space Grant.

The Kentucky Science Center is located at 727 W. Main Street and is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., making it easy for anyone in Louisville to attend this unique event and experience
