The Florida Department of Health in Marion County (DOH-Marion) is inviting seniors aged 55 and over to attend the “Staying Healthy as You Age” class on Thursday, February 22, 2024. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the Marion Oaks Community Center, located at 280 Marion Oaks Lane in Ocala, FL 34473.
As part of American Heart Month, DOH-Marion encourages all Floridians to adopt a lifestyle that promotes heart health and well-being. This includes maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, adding physical activity into their weekly schedule, and eating nutritious foods that support a healthy cardiovascular system. Heart disease is the leading cause of death nationally as well as in Florida.
DOH-Marion is partnering with Marion County Senior Services to offer the “Staying Healthy as You Age” class for seniors aged 55 and over. The class aims to help participants discover ways to promote healthy aging, including maintaining a positive attitude, following a nutritious diet, engaging in regular physical activity, getting regular medical check-ups, stimulating the brain with mental exercises, and leading an active social life.
The class is open to all interested seniors and there is no need to register in advance. For more information about the class or any other questions, please contact Melissa Marino at 352-644-2624.
