Expanding Access to Healthcare: U-M Health System Acquires Troy Kmart Property for New Specialty Facility

The University of Michigan Health System (U-M Health) announced plans to acquire vacant land at the former Kmart headquarters in Troy for the construction of a multi-specialty facility. This 7.8-acre property, located at 3100 West Big Beaver Road, was previously owned by Forbes/Frankel Troy Ventures LLC and is expected to be acquired for $4.42 million.

The new facility will focus on advanced specialty and diagnostic services, aimed at expanding clinical services and patient access in Oakland County. U-M Health CEO Marschall Runge sees this as an opportunity to establish a presence in southeast Michigan and provide easier access to their world-class care for metro Detroit residents.

President of U-M Health, David Miller, believes that the facility will be a hub for advanced clinical programs like multi-disciplinary cancer care. This move is part of U-M Health’s effort to establish a broad network of care across the state, allowing more Michigan residents to access their services close to home. The new facility in Troy is seen as a strategic location to expand their reach and bring innovative clinical programs to a new community of patients.
