FAIRMONT — Fairmont’s Brock Lutterman has a quest — generating the Class AA state golf tournament.
The Cardinal senior produced the state meet in the course of his sophomore year, but missed by 1 stroke final year as a junior.
He knows what he has to do to get the job completed — play two constant rounds of golf in the Section 3AA Tournament played at Oakdale Golf Course in Buffalo Lake.
Lutterman had to shoot a round low sufficient in the course of the initially day of the tournament to make the section finals, which will be played May perhaps 31 back at Oakdale Golf Course.
His Day 1 score of 41-41-82 earned him a tie for 15th location general and a spot in Day 2’s competitors.
“I produced it (state meet) as a sophomore, but fell a small brief final year, thanks to a terrible initially day,” Lutterman stated. “I really feel very good and I really feel confident about my game this time heading into the tournament. I have to putt effectively.”
Lutterman shot a practice round the day ahead of the section tournment and is mentally and physically prepared for his section tournament. His nine-hole typical is 37 and his 18-hole typical is 76.
He has been a constant presence at or close to the best of the standings of each and every occasion the Cardinals’ boys golf group played this spring.
Mother Nature also played a part as she has thrown each type of climate his way, from cold and windy early in the season to sunny and warm this week.
Lutterman perservered and continued to post low scores. He not too long ago shot 1-more than round of 73 in the Cardinal Invitational at Interlaken Golf Course exactly where he placed second.
He produced the choice to continue his golf game at the subsequent level. He committed to play his collegiate golf at Morningside University in nearby Sioux City, Iowa. Morningside is a member of the Wonderful Plains Athletic Conference.
Lutterman will play his college golf below the tutelage of head coach Nick Wanderscheid.
“He’s a good guy and took me about campus when I produced my check out,” Lutterman stated. “I’m going to attempt my very best to crack the varsity lineup my freshman year. It will be difficult because the group has some young, very good golfers. I have to enhance my game, but I can do it.
“I’m excited at the opportunity. I spoke with a couple of the guys on the group, and they stated the student-athletes are treated fantastic.”
The university men’s golf group plays a fall schedule that runs from the finish of August by means of early October, then competes in the spring, going from the finish of February by means of the finish of April.
Lutterman also gave some believed about playing golf at Iowa Central, Winona State, Minnesota State and Bemidji State, but liked Morningside the very best.
“I like the campus, the academics, the student life and the golf plan,” Lutterman stated. “Sioux City is massive sufficient (85,627 population) but not that massive,” he stated. “It has sufficient stuff for me to do and it is only two 1/two hours from house so my loved ones can see me play golf.”
Morningside is 156 miles from Fairmont to Sioux City.
Lutterman grew up about the game. He initially played baseball as a youngster, but switched to golf in middle college. He discovered the game from his dad, Chad, who played higher college golf and continues with the game as an adult.
“I grew up about the game, so I really feel really comfy on the course,” Lutterman stated. “My older brother (Brycen) played in higher college and is now a college student and my younger sister (Belinda) plays on the higher college girls group.”
Brock is the middle kid of parents Chad and Chrissy Lutterman.
Brock is interested in majoring in organization management, plus minoring in sports management.
“I want to be involved in some aspect of golf,” Brock stated. “I’m not certain which aspect, but I absolutely want to keep involved in golf as a profession.”
Brock moves into his dormitory in mid-August and his initially day of classes is Wednesday, Aug. 23.
Brock also played football and hockey in the course of his higher college sports profession.
