A quick break does much more than just fuel our bodies, it strengthens our minds. Our overworked guest tries the Swedish practice of ‘Fika’ – taking quick coffee breaks all through the perform day.
Episode summary:

In the United States, we’re taught that it is a excellent point to perform much more, and perform tougher. But study shows that overworking is not just physically and mentally draining, it can also be deadly. A single approach to handle our perform culture? Take much more breaks. Our guest this week is Mike Heyliger, a music executive and self-described “workaholic.” He incorporated the Swedish tradition of fika – taking coffee and snack breaks all through the day – into his personal life, and discovered it not only helped him de-pressure, it also shifted his mindset and enabled him to connect with other individuals. Later, we appear at the scientific rewards of taking microbreaks and hear from Anna Brones, co-author of Fika: The Art of the Swedish Coffee Break.

Practice:
Today’s guests:

  • Actively decide on to take a break in the course of your day. Generally, fika breaks occur twice. When in the morning and as soon as in the mid-afternoon.

  • Traditionally, fika breaks incorporate a drink, like coffee, and a snack, but this is not essential. Typically, fika breaks are taken with other individuals.

  • Mike Heyliger is a music executive and the creator of Detoxicity, a podcast on progressive masculinity.
