Fire Department and University Response: Investigation Continues After Unpleasant Odor Detected in Franklin Science Center

On Monday afternoon, the Franklin Science Center was evacuated after an unpleasant odor of something burning was detected within the building. The campus community was informed of the situation through a mass email sent by SU News at 3:24 p.m. on April 22. Emergency vehicles from the Shippensburg Fire Department and SUPD, along with university facilities, responded to the scene around 2:45 p.m.

After authorities determined that the building was safe to reopen, it resumed operations at 3:15 p.m. However, facilities personnel continued to inspect the ceiling of Franklin Science Center room 108, which was suspected to be the source of the odor. The SU facilities team remained on site to investigate the cause of the smell after the building was reopened.

As this is an evolving story, updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
