First 5G Technology Test Conducted in Ukraine

The fifth-generation mobile technology, known as 5G, has been launched in Ukraine in test mode. Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science and Technology Development and Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov made the announcement on Telegram. The launch took place in places like the Promprylad Innovation Center in Ivano-Frankivsk, Vodafone Office in Kyiv, and Nokia Office in Helsinki, where a 5G call was successfully made to test the connection quality.

5G technology is already being used in more than 90 countries around the world. The European Union plans to have all cities and main roads covered with 5G by the year 2025. Despite challenges like a full-scale war, Ukraine is determined to keep up with global innovation and technological advancements.

Fedorov thanked Vodafone and Nokia for taking an important step towards the implementation of 5G in Ukraine and expressed hope that the technology would soon be scaled up for wider use. Vodafone and Nokia successfully established connections using pilot 5G indoor solutions at the Promprylad Innovation Center and Vodafone Office, providing users with faster speeds and access to modern technologies through common smartphones and tablets with 5G support.

In November 2020, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved an action plan to implement 5G technology in the country. Recently, on October 28, 2021, UNIT.City Innovation Park in Kyiv opened a 5G test communication zone called 5G Lab, further advancing the development and testing of 5G technology in Ukraine.
