Looking to keep your child’s mind engaged and active this summer? Fort Hays State University’s Science and Mathematics Education Institute (SMEI) has got you covered. With a variety of summer camps for students entering grades four through eight, SMEI is the perfect place to spark your child’s imagination and encourage their love of learning.

Each camp runs for four days a week, Monday through Thursday, with sessions lasting three hours each in either the morning from 9 a.m. to noon or in the afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. There is a limit of two camps per student, and spaces are filling up quickly, so it’s important to register as soon as possible to secure your spot.

Students will work in teams on hands-on activities to design, build, and operate their own store on Main Street. Another camp, A Sense of Place: Designing for Folklore and Fairytale, is available for students in grades five through eight from June 10-13, where they will create their own short story through illustration, image scanning, and 3D modeling.

Camp North Star is for students in grades five through seven and will run from June 17-20 in the morning. This camp focuses on engineering activities such as CAD design, rocket designs
