In the lead-up to the Argentine presidency runoff election, candidate Sergio Massa and his son have been subjected to threats. Five individuals are currently being accused of making these threats, with three men and a woman having been arrested. A teenager was also taken into custody in Salta for posting a threat against the 17-year-old son of Massa on Instagram.

The election campaign has been marked by a hostile tone, with Massa running against ultra-liberal populist Javier Milei in a tight race. Milei describes himself as an anarcho-capitalist and has been criticized for his populist rhetoric. His opponents accused him of standing for a “dictatorship” and accompanied boos at an opera performance where he was performing with slogans. Meanwhile, the legal investigation into the threats against Massa and his family continues, along with personal protection orders that have been put in place.
