Minnesota’s Claim to Fame: The World’s Largest Lite Brite

In 2013, the St. Paul Foundation approached local artist Ta-coumba T. Aiken with a unique challenge: to create the world’s largest Lite Brite at the Union Depot. Aiken, who played with Lite Brite as a child and had once burned his finger trying to change a bulb, was initially hesitant about taking on such a massive project.

But he quickly embraced the challenge and rallied over 500 volunteers to help him bring his vision to life. With their help, he glued together an incredible array of Lite Brite pieces to create Forever St. Paul, a Picasso-like masterpiece that measures 24 feet wide and 8 feet high.

The finished piece set a Guinness World Record for the largest Lite Brite artwork in history, and Aiken signed it with pieces of Lite Brite as a symbol of his love for art and his dedication to creating something truly special. The artwork has since become a beloved landmark in St. Paul, inspiring visitors from all over the world with its beauty and creativity.
