A sudden paralysis struck the 19-year-old boy

Two weeks ago, a 19-year-old man in Phu Tho was experiencing leg pain but chose not to see a doctor. Unfortunately, his condition worsened and he became paralyzed, losing all movement and feeling.

Dr. Vi Truong Son, the Head of the Surgery Department at Phu Tho General Hospital, revealed that an MRI scan showed an epidural tumor pressing on the patient’s spinal cord, leading to his paralysis. Surgery was performed to remove the tumor and decompress the spinal cord, resulting in no lasting effects for the patient. The tumor was identified as a benign schwannoma.

After the surgery, the patient’s legs began to regain feeling and movement. With a combination of rehabilitation exercises and physical therapy, he is expected to recover the ability to walk normally soon.

It is important for individuals experiencing symptoms such as back pain, limb weakness or numbness in their limbs to seek medical attention immediately. Timely examination and treatment are crucial in managing conditions like these and preventing serious consequences such as permanent paralysis or even death.
