Vikings suspend Offensive Coordinator Wes Phillips for three weeks after his December arrest

In December, the Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Wes Phillips was arrested for speeding and his blood-alcohol level tested above the legal limit of 0.08%. As a result, he has been suspended by the team for three weeks without pay.

Following his arrest on Dec. 8, Phillips was booked into the Hennepin County jail but released the next day after posting a $300 bond. Despite the arrest, Phillips joined the Vikings on their team flight to Las Vegas later that day and was not disciplined during the regular season.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed disappointment in Phillips following the arrest, emphasizing that he cared deeply about him. However, due to suspension, Phillips will miss a significant portion of the team’s pre-draft preparation and the beginning of their offseason strength and conditioning program.

Phillips acknowledged his mistake during a press conference in December, pledging to learn from it and accept any discipline that came his way. In February, he pled guilty to a lesser charge of careless driving, which includes one year of probation, a $378 fine, and eight hours of community service. He is the son of former NFL head coach Wade Phillips and the grandson of former NFL head coach Bum Phillips.
