Chris Pacheco was a man of diverse interests, having spent his days farming king oysters, blue oysters, and golden oysters. However, despite the variety of mushrooms he grew, he was not an oyster farmer. Pacheco owned Seacoast Mushrooms, where he and his seven employees cultivated oyster mushrooms and various other flavorful fungi in a 12,000-square-foot mushroom farm located on Taugwonk Road. The farm was housed in a large blue warehouse with shipping containers in the back.

Growing up, Pacheco had always been interested in farming but found the rocky New England soil to be unsuitable for his family’s apple orchard in Rhode Island. He pursued an engineering degree to move away from farming and later spent time in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hartford, which eventually brought him to the area where he currently resides. Following his submarine service, Pacheco remained in the region for fifteen years, working in the corporate world before finally deciding to return to his roots as a farmer.

In 2015, Pacheco was drawn back to his passion for agriculture by the challenge of growing mushrooms. He developed a business plan focused on connecting with his community through food and established Seacoast Mushrooms. Today, Pacheco works alongside his team to grow a variety of mushrooms that are fresh and flavorful produce for their local area.
