In the state of Colorado, the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) has just released its preseason Coaches Polls for three winter sports: boys basketball, girls basketball, and ice hockey. These polls will be the only coaches polls published for the 2023-24 winter season.
Unlike previous years, CHSAA will not be releasing any coaches polls for swimming & diving or wrestling. Instead, MaxPreps will compile individual rankings for these sports, while On The Mat will provide wrestling rankings.
The main factor used to determine qualification and postseason seedings for all team sports in Colorado is the CHSAA Seeding Index. Unlike coaches polls, these rankings can be updated hourly throughout the season, giving teams, coaches, schools and fans a better understanding of where a team ranks at any given time.
To qualify for the CHSAA Postseason Seeding Index, teams must meet a minimum number of games played. Games and minimums are determined by MaxPreps and vary by sport and time of the season. As a result, the rankings will not be available at the start of every season. The rankings will be published once teams get deeper into their seasons (approximately 3-5 weeks into a particular season).
All live data can be found on the CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index website. To learn more about how these rankings are calculated and to view where teams stand currently on the rankings board, visit the RPI FAQs page or check out the RPI Standings website. A schedule of upcoming games and past scores can also be found on this site under Scoreboard section.
