Citroën C3s and DS3s undergo massive recall due to airbag malfunction

Citroën has issued a recall for several Citroën C3 and DS3 model vehicles due to a potential risk of injury caused by a failure in the airbag system. The manufacturer stated that the propellant in the driver and passenger airbags could deteriorate over time, leading to a rupture with excessive force during deployment in an accident.

This issue was initially observed in regions with hot and humid climates, prompting a recall in overseas territories between 2020 and 2021. However, it has now been extended globally, affecting nearly 500,000 Citroën C3 vehicles. Over 180,000 of these vehicles are in France, along with almost 59,000 DS3 units.

Citroën has assured that it will cover the costs of the repair, even if the vehicle is out of warranty, and provide a temporary mobility solution until the airbags are fixed. To check if their model is part of the recall, vehicle owners can enter their VIN on Citroën’s website or a dedicated site for DS models. The manufacturer has sent registered letters to owners and urged them to act promptly to avoid the risk of serious injury or even death due to the faulty airbags.
