Extended intersection closure causes frustration for Saginaw businesses

The Hand Dipped Ice Cream shop in Saginaw is facing challenges due to the closure of a major intersection that will last for months during its peak season. On Monday, March 25, construction closed the intersection of Sheridan Avenue and Hess Avenue without warning, affecting both commuters and businesses located at the intersection.

Fred Temple, an employee at the family-owned ice cream shop, arrived at work to find hard hats and orange barrels due to the reconstruction project that started on the street. Despite his concerns about the closure not being lifted until August 9, Temple is still encouraging people to visit Hand Dipped Ice Cream for their delicious treats. The shop also offers tacos and tostadas for customers to enjoy while they wait for traffic to clear.

The closure has impacted the flow of traffic, with the city urging residents to find alternate routes to their destinations. Temple believes that the closure will deter customers from visiting his shop, especially during upcoming events like the Fourth of July celebrations.

However, another challenge faced by businesses and residents in Saginaw is the closure of Gratiot Avenue (M-46) between Malzahn Street and Wheeler Street for utility work until Friday afternoon March 29th. This adds more disruptions in Saginaw’s busy streets.

Despite these challenges, Temple is optimistic that his ice cream shop will continue to thrive in Saginaw’s bustling business district.
