Japan has made history by becoming the fifth country to successfully land a spacecraft on the moon. The Slim moon lander, operated by the Japanese Space Administration (Jaxa), recently emerged from a two-week lunar night and was confirmed to be functioning properly. Jaxa shared a photo taken by Slim of the Moon’s crater, showcasing its successful mission. However, the lander faced challenges due to landing at an incorrect angle, which caused its solar panels to face the wrong direction. Additionally, the lander is not equipped to handle the extreme cold temperatures of the Moon at night, which can drop as low as 130 degrees below zero.
Previously, successful lunar landings have been accomplished by four other countries: the United States, Russia (at the time Soviet Union), China, and India. Japan’s recent success adds it to this esteemed list of nations that have achieved this remarkable feat.
