Junior World Championships conclude in Livigno amidst challenging weather for Big Air and Slopestyle events

Despite the calendar turning to spring almost two weeks ago, winter has continued to have a strong hold on the European Alps. This has spelled bad news for late-season competitions scheduled in the region after the conclusion of the World Cup season. One such event that was impacted was the Livigno 2024 FIS Park & Pipe Junior World Championships for slopestyle and big air. The competition faced rough weather conditions throughout the week, culminating in the cancellation of the big air finals on Saturday due to inclement weather which posed safety concerns.

In snowboarding events, Laura Zaveska of Czechia secured the gold medal in slopestyle, with Yura Murase of Japan earning silver and Rebecca Flynn of USA taking home bronze. In men’s slopestyle competition, Brooklyn Depriest of USA claimed gold, followed by Romain Allemand of France with silver and Rocco Jamieson of New Zealand securing bronze medal. Despite challenges posed by weather, athletes displayed their skills and determination in face of adversity.

Although the big air finals had to be cancelled due to bad weather conditions, results were still awarded in most competitions that were part of Livigno 2024 FIS Park & Pipe Junior World Championships. The slopestyle finals took place as scheduled on Wednesday while snowboard big air podiums were determined based on qualification results leading up to cancelled finals session on Saturday.

Unfortunately, women’s freeski big air finals had to be scrapped entirely due to inclement weather conditions. Despite this setback, athletes performed admirably under tough circumstances. They demonstrated their skills and determination in their respective events while adapting to changing conditions.

The cancellation of big air finals has left organizers searching for ways to make up for lost time and ensure that all events are completed as planned before spring arrives fully. As a result, they may have to reschedule or postpone some events until later in the season or even next year when better weather conditions are expected.

Overall, despite challenging weather conditions, athletes put up a strong performance and displayed their skills while adapting to changing circumstances. Their efforts should not go unnoticed as they continue to push themselves and compete at high levels despite difficult situations.
