Texas-primarily based furnishings retailer Louis Shanks is closing its doors immediately after just about 80 years in company. The enterprise announced on Tuesday that it will be shutting down its two remaining shops situated in San Antonio and Austin, following a liquidation sale. The sale is set to start on Thursday, according to a news release.

Louis Shanks Furnishings was founded by Louis Shanks in Austin and has been in the household for 4 generations. Shanks initially opened a retailer with companion John Stanford in downtown Austin in the 1940s. Just after 5 years, their partnership ended, and Shanks then partnered with Henry Meyers to establish the Shanks-Meyers furnishings retailer. In 1954, Shanks purchased out Meyers and opened the Louis Shanks Furnishings retailer on Lamar Boulevard in Austin.

More than the years, the company expanded, adding a second retailer in Austin in 1974, followed by a San Antonio place in 1983. It later expanded to Houston and Sugarland. The enterprise was also recognized by Furnishings Now as 1 of the Leading one hundred U.S. Furnishings Retailers, ranking at quantity 77 in 1996 and 69 in 1998.

The two remaining areas for Louis Shanks Furnishings are the flagship retailer in Austin at 2930 W. Anderson Lane and the sister retailer in San Antonio at Interstate ten and Huebner. With each other, these shops give a total of 200,000 square feet of merchandise, which will be sold in the course of the liquidation sale. When the sale is completed and all merchandise and inventory are liquidated, the shops will be permanently closed, as stated in the release.
