Laukkanen Calls for Dialogue Amid Ongoing Strikes and Economic Hardship

Sakari Laukkanen, a Kemi-based entrepreneur, is concerned about the participation of all stakeholders in the ongoing savings talks. The prolonged strikes that began have started to impact Laukkanen’s business operations at his advertising factory called Teippar. Due to the strikes, Laukkanen had to issue a layoff warning to the entire staff, with layoffs expected to take place next week affecting two or three out of eight employees.

The strikes, initially planned for just two weeks, have now been extended to at least four weeks, causing disruptions in various industries. Teippar has faced canceled orders and delays in material deliveries due to these strikes. For Laukkanen, these challenges remind him of those faced during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. He hopes for an end to the strikes and calls on all stakeholders – including employees, pensioners, unemployed individuals and employers – to participate in discussions aimed at addressing economic issues caused by the strikes.

Laukkanen expressed concern about the potential power struggle between striking workers and employers and urged industrial peace as a way of finding solutions that benefit everyone. He emphasized that concrete suggestions from employee unions are necessary if they want any meaningful resolution. He also hoped that an end would come soon to avoid further layoffs and economic hardship for his business and other affected enterprises.

In conclusion, Laukkanen’s experience with strike-related challenges has brought home the importance of finding a peaceful solution that benefits all parties involved. His call for dialogue among stakeholders reflects a growing recognition of the need for collective action in resolving complex economic problems such as those caused by prolonged labor disputes.
