114-year-old man passes away just shy of his 115th birthday

On Tuesday, Juan Vicente Perez Mora, the world’s oldest man alive, passed away at the age of 114. The news was reported by multiple media outlets and Venezuelan government officials. Perez was officially certified in February 2022 as the world’s oldest man when he was 112 years and 253 days old, according to Guinness World Records.

Perez was a resident of the town of El Cobre in Táchira state, Venezuela, and had a large family consisting of 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. He fathered 11 children throughout his life. Born on May 27, 1909, as the ninth out of 10 siblings, Perez was actively involved in agriculture from a young age. He started working with his father and brothers in sugar cane and coffee harvesting when he was just five years old.

Perez experienced many changes and historical events throughout his long life but left behind a legacy that will be remembered by his family and the people of El Cobre. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro expressed his condolences on Wednesday, acknowledging Perez’s achievement of holding the Guinness Record for being the oldest man in the world.
