The course MKTG 0003: The Art and Science of Influence is designed to explore the crucial role that persuasion plays in our daily lives. From individuals to governments, everyone engages in persuasive efforts, making it essential to understand the techniques of influence. This course offers a comprehensive overview of contemporary theories and methods for presenting ideas in a persuasive manner.

The course begins with an examination of negotiation basics, including the relationship between attitudes and behaviors, cognitive and emotional biases. Students will gain a toolbox of science-based persuasion techniques, learning practical tactics in data visualization, numerical communication, and persuasive writing. “The Art and Science of Influence” goes beyond a typical course by delving into the mechanisms shaping our choices, beliefs, and actions in a world full of persuasive forces.

By the end of the course, students will be able to understand theories of persuasion, create persuasive messages based on research and theory, explain why persuasion techniques work using relevant research and theory, and incorporate class materials into a knowledgeable persuasive campaign.

The Wharton Pre-baccalaureate Program offers exceptional high school juniors and seniors the chance to enroll in Wharton online courses with academic intensity. Participants learn from Wharton instructors, earn a Wharton transcript, and gain college credit for each completed course. With six sessions to choose from, students have the flexibility and resources to explore the full range of Wharton’s business education curriculum and succeed with built-in academic support.
