James Madison redshirt juniors Davide Materazzi and Demitri Turner have recently been named to the College Sports Communicators Division I Men’s Soccer Academic All-District Team. To be eligible for this honor, athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and have started in 66% or competed in 90% of all matches.
Materazzi, who is currently pursuing a graduate degree in sport management leadership at JMU, earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management with a cumulative GPA of 3.579 while attending Davis & Elkins University. This season, he has been a key player on the team, starting all 19 matches and scoring two goals while helping anchor the defense.
Turner, who is majoring in quantitative finance with a GPA of 3.762, has also started all 19 matches this season and scored his first career goal against Coastal Carolina. He has accumulated a total of seven points this season.
On Saturday, November 25th at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, JMU will travel to Los Angeles to face off against No. 25 Loyola Marymount in the round of 16 matchup during the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship tournament. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with the winner advancing to play the winner of fifth-seeded West Virginia and Vermont in the quarterfinals stage of the tournament.
