Rory McIlroy seeks advice from Butch Harmon, former coach of Tiger Woods, ahead of Masters tournament

Rory McIlroy has recently enlisted the help of Butch Harmon, Tiger Woods’ former coach, as he seeks to improve his game ahead of his latest attempt to win The Masters. With just one top-20 finish on the PGA Tour this season, the 34-year-old recognized that he needed guidance from a skilled coach to help him address the issues in his game.

Harmon, 80, has a distinguished coaching history and previously worked with Woods for his first eight major victories before parting ways in 2002. McIlroy revealed that he visited Harmon for a golf lesson recently and noted that he typically sees him every few years to get his input on his game. Despite having long-time coach Michael Bannon, McIlroy has also worked with Pete Cowen in the past.

Before meeting with Harmon in Las Vegas, McIlroy shared a heartwarming moment with his daughter Poppy, who innocently questioned why he needed another golf lesson. Her simple insight resonated with McIlroy, who admitted it was some of the best advice he had received in years.

If McIlroy emerges victorious at Augusta National next month, he will become only the sixth player to win all four men’s majors in golf history. However, prior to this tournament, the Northern Irishman has yet to secure a win at Augusta National to complete the career Grand Slam. His best finish there was a second-place result in 2012 alongside five other top-10 performances.
