On Monday, it was announced that Sam Altman, co-founder and former CEO of startup OpenAI, will be joining Microsoft to lead a new AI research team. This news comes three days after Altman was ousted as CEO of the company.
Altman and his co-founder Greg Brockman will be joining colleagues at Microsoft to continue their work in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). OpenAI is a start-up that developed ChatGPT, an AI tool that has gained significant attention in the industry. Microsoft has invested several billion dollars in OpenAI and has incorporated this technology into its own products, such as the Bing search engine.
Altman responded to the news on social network X by stating that “The mission continues.” He thanked his colleagues at OpenAI for their hard work and accomplishments, including the launch of the first version of ChatGPT on November 30, 2022.
OpenAI’s board of directors surprised everyone on Friday when they announced the dismissal of Altman, stating that he was not “consistently honest in his communications” and lost confidence in his ability to manage the company. Several people in leadership positions at OpenAI also announced their departure following Altman’s dismissal.
