The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is renowned for its groundbreaking discoveries in science, research, and technology. The university has an extremely competitive acceptance rate, with only 3.9% of over 33,000 applicants being admitted for the class of 2026. MIT’s endowment reached $24.6 billion in the last fiscal year, with funds being allocated towards research, education, and scholarships. Starting in 2023, families with a typical income below $140,000 will have their undergraduate students’ tuition fully covered thanks to the university’s endowments.

In addition to its esteemed academic programs, incoming students can expect to see the school’s colors of cardinal red and silver gray all around campus. MIT is known not only for its exceptional education but also for its vibrant prank culture. Past pranks have included stealing a giant inflatable duck from Harvard and displaying a Duke University flag to celebrate the appointment of MIT’s new president, Sally Kornbluth, who previously worked at Duke University.
