Is There Alien Life in the Solar System? – The Science Quiz

Io, the Jovian moon known for its geological activity, is unlikely to support life due to its constant activity. However, the warmth generated by its processes could potentially provide conditions for it.

Ceres, the largest asteroid in the Solar System, may have a subsurface ocean of water. While evidence is still weak, scientists believe that very salty water could flow to its surface and potentially contain microbial life.

Titan, a moon of Saturn, is unique in that it has a complete cycle of liquid on its surface. Unlike Earth’s water, Titan’s liquid is made of hydrocarbons, raising the possibility of hosting life on this moon.

Triton, a moon of Neptune, rotates in the opposite direction to its host planet and has a mantle made of water kept in a liquid state by heat generated from radioactive decay. This suggests that Triton may provide conditions for life to exist.

Enceladus, a moon of Saturn, ejects plumes of salt water and organic molecules into space from beneath its ice shell. Scientists believe that an underground ocean may exist on this moon and hint at the possibility of life there.

NASA’s Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE) mission will reach Jupiter in 2031 to study Ganymede, Callisto and Europa for signs of life.
