Building of MVRDV’s Matrix 1 project, a laboratory and workplace creating in the heart of Amsterdam Science Park, has been completed.
The six-story, 140,000-square-foot structure is the biggest of seven buildings that now make up the Matrix Innovation Center, a internet site for scientists and entrepreneurs to create sustainable options for existing and future difficulties.

As the major hub at the Center, Matrix 1 aims to be a guiding instance to the other buildings at the Amsterdam Science Park. The creating was produced to be demountable, in which connections such as screws and bolts permit components to be detached and reused. In addition, its floors are produced working with prefabricated concrete slabs with no fixed connections.

The platform Madaster was applied to give a material passport technique that registers all the components and goods incorporated in the creating. It gives insight into the carbon dioxide storage for more than 120,000 person elements. According to MVRDV, more than 90% of the building’s components can be reused once more.

“Matrix 1 presented an great chance for us to test a quantity of the carbon-reduction methods we have extended been investigating at MVRDV,” mentioned MVRDV companion Frans de Witte. “The creating is state-of-the-art now, but it also acknowledges that the state-of-the-art is consistently altering. So we produced each the interior spaces and the technical installations that serve them as versatile as achievable offices can very easily be modified to come to be labs and vice versa, and labs can be very easily upgraded with new systems to accommodate altering requirements. In the decades to come when the creating is no longer cutting-edge, it will come to be a supply to harvest components from for other buildings. In the future, we hope this is how all buildings will perform — and we’re excited to see Matrix 1 come to be a normal-bearer in our personal workplace.”
