Health Plan Resource Guide for Hospitals and Providers Affected by Cyberattacks issued by HHS

Hospitals and providers affected by the Change Healthcare cyberattack are facing significant disruptions, which has led to difficulty in obtaining information from healthcare plans regarding payments or necessary flexibilities. In response, the Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS), Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have released a national resource guide of health plan contact information to support these affected individuals.

In a letter introducing the guide, HHS, ASPR and CMS encourage hospitals and health systems to consider reviewing the voluntary cybersecurity performance goals that were released earlier this year. These goals aim to improve the security posture of healthcare organizations and prevent future cyberattacks. Additionally, the resources provided by the AHA Change Healthcare cyberattack update webpage can be accessed for the latest information on the cyberattack. These resources include an announcement from CMS on accelerated and advance payments to impacted hospitals and physicians, frequently asked questions, and an informational bulletin on actions states can take to assist Medicaid providers affected by the cyberattack.

If you have further questions or need more information about this resource guide or any other aspect related to healthcare security or cybersecurity, please reach out to Molly Smith, AHA group vice president of policy at mollysmith@aha.org.
