New Animal Science Minor at Morningside University: Bridging the Gap between Academics and Industry

In the fall of 2024, Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa will be introducing a new animal science minor for students who are passionate about animal health and welfare. This addition to the academic catalog provides students with more career opportunities and aligns with the university’s commitment to providing innovative academic programs that meet the needs of the Siouxland region.

Dr. Chris Spicer, the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Morningside University, expressed excitement about the new minor, highlighting the university’s dedication to offering interdisciplinary study options that prepare students for successful careers. Dr. Tom Paulsen, the dean of the School of Agriculture and Aviation, emphasized the hands-on learning experiences and industry partnerships that the animal science minor will provide. The curriculum is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of animal biology, ethics, and technology’s role in animal science.

The addition of an animal science minor complements Morningside University’s various majors available to students, giving them flexibility to tailor their educational experience to their career goals. The introduction of this new program reflects recent enhancements within the Regina Roth Applied Agricultural and Food Studies Department, such as building Rosen Ag Center and developing Lags Farm – a 76-acre learning farm located near campus.
