Innovative technology created to minimize the environmental footprint of mining

A new chemical process is being developed in British Columbia to minimize the environmental impact of the mining industry while extracting critical minerals. Vancouver-based pH7 Technologies has created a proprietary closed-loop process using advanced chemistry to refine critical metals. The process is efficient and cost-effective, allowing for the extraction of metal alloys, including platinum group metals, copper, and tin, from low-grade resources or difficult substrates.

pH7 Technologies founder and CEO Mohammad Doostmohammadi stated that their commitment to a clean, green future is reflected in their technology. The company aims to bring a clean-tech solution to scale the extraction of metals, making existing processes more sustainable and cost-effective.

The British Columbia government has expressed support for pH7’s innovative thinking through its funding of $850,000 from the ICE Fund. This funding will allow pH7 to conduct a pilot project processing 5,000 kilograms of raw materials per day into approximately 2,500 kilograms of extracted platinum group metals per year. The ICE Fund was established in 2007 and supports B.C.’s clean energy sector by funding projects that reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and promote clean, renewable energy technologies.
