New York State will quickly publish a revamped Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act Portal, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday.
The new portal, anticipated to go reside in April, is intended to make it simpler for employers to supply the state with facts about impending organization closures or mass layoffs.
The technologies upgrade marks the newest milestone in the New York State Division of Labor’s 4-year technologies modernization strategy, Hochul mentioned in a press release.
“By upgrading systems and regulations at the Division of Labor, my administration is embracing 21st-century measures to simplify and streamline processes, boost consumer service, and greater connect New York jobseekers with fulfilling operate possibilities,” Hochul mentioned.
The New York State WARN Act needs private-sector employers with 50 or far more complete-time staff to give 90 days’ notice of organization closures, mass layoffs, workplace relocations or reductions in operate hours.
Hochul also mentioned she will introduce new WARN Act language to clarify employers’ reporting obligations, especially relating to remote versus in-individual operate.
WARN Act notices elevated throughout the pandemic. The Division of Labor received 430 filings affecting practically 28,000 workers in 2019, and practically two,200 filings affecting far more than 240,000 workers in 2020.
