Diamondbacks and LHP Jordan Montgomery reach one-year deal

The Arizona Diamondbacks have added more depth to their starting rotation by signing veteran left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery to a one-year contract worth up to $25 million. Sources revealed details of the contract, which includes a vesting option for 2025, on Tuesday.

Montgomery, 31, previously played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers. In the 2022 season, Montgomery had a successful run with the Cardinals, posting a 3.42 ERA over 21 starts. After being traded to the Rangers in July, he went 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA in his final 11 starts. His strong performance continued in the postseason, where he went 3-1 and helped the Rangers secure their first World Series title.

With a career ERA of 3.68 and a 38-34 record over 141 appearances, Montgomery brings valuable experience to the Diamondbacks. He made his major league debut with the New York Yankees in 2017 and was later traded to the Cardinals in 2022. Now, he joins a rotation that includes pitchers like Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Tommy Henry, Brandon Pfaadt, and Ryne Nelson.
