Nic Fink Claims Gold in 100m Breaststroke as Peaty Makes Podium Comeback

Nic Fink won the 100m breaststroke gold medal at the World Championships in Doha, adding to his short-course crown. The USA athlete had a massive lead throughout the race, despite being attacked by Adam Peaty. In the end, Fink took the title with a time of 58.57 seconds, claiming his country’s first gold of the competition.

Nicolo Martinenghi came from fifth place at halfway to take second in 58.84 seconds, following a blistering second 50 meters split of 31.41 seconds. Peaty finished third in 59.19 seconds and returned to the world long-course podium for the first time since Gwangju 2019.

Fink now has a medal of each color at the last three worlds: silver in Fukuoka last year in a three-way tie with Arno Kamminga and Martinenghi, which followed bronze at Budapest 2022.

Splits: 26.98/31.59: Peaty / Martinenghi / Fink
