One Mile Radius: The Frustrating Rise of Car Break-Ins in Snapfinger Woods Dr. and I-20, Dekalb County

In recent months, a series of car break-ins have been plaguing one Dekalb County community. With 18 incidents occurring in the past two months and 40 so far this year, all within a one-mile radius of Snapfinger Woods Dr. and Interstate 20, business owners and workers are feeling increasingly frustrated.

Surveillance videos have captured thieves using nearby woods and holes in fences as shortcuts and hiding spots. They break into car windows, quickly grab items inside, and run off, always concealing their faces with hoodies. One customer, Quentalyn Stephens, expressed her frustration by saying, “Do something better!” Stephens had her car stolen in the same area last year and knows the feeling of violation that comes with it.

Despite warnings from surveillance videos, the presence of daylight, and the number of people around to catch them, the thieves continue their brazen activities without fear of being caught. Business owners and workers in the area are hesitant to speak out publicly for fear of retaliation from the thieves. However, they are hoping for increased police patrols to help deter future break-ins and keep their community safe.
